Each fall, eligible students have the opportunity to audition for the Southwest Missouri Music Educators Association (SWMMEA) Junior High Honor Band. This prestigious ensemble brings together some of the finest young musicians from southwest Missouri for a day of rehearsals under the direction of a distinguished guest conductor, culminating in a public performance.

Students audition individually on a prepared musical selection and are evaluated by experienced band directors from across the region. Selection to the SWMMEA Junior High Honor Band is a significant achievement that recognizes a student's musical ability, dedication, and commitment to excellence.

​Students interested in auditioning are expected to practice consistently, attend all required preparation sessions, and work closely with the band directors to prepare the audition material. Participation in the audition process is strongly encouraged, as it provides valuable experience, promotes individual musical growth, and helps prepare students for future district, all-state, and collegiate audition opportunities.
